the U.S. Constitution
The success of the war against Great Britain first led to financial crises, a week and wildly suspected movement toward centralized authority, patterns of exploitation and crude forms of political manipulation. The war was won, but peace was anything but tranquil. Several plans for uniting the colonies were put in place, each not more effective than its predecessor. Finally, but without widespread hopefulness, there was agreement to appoint representatives to meet in Philadelphia in 1787, ostensibly to refine and give greater force to The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union. The results, alas, was the Constitution of the United States, arguably the most refined and effective document contrived by the human imagination. But would it be accepted? And what is to be said of such a document, whereby its citizens had no verbal say? By way of pamphlets and speeches, by way of that extraordinary collection of newspaper essays known as the Federalist Papers, the already baptized nation now could begin its own political life, understanding its achievement less in local than in global terms, because the principles enunciated were understood to be universal in their application, universal in their internal logic. Here, then, was this novus ordo saeclorum – this new order of the ages!

The Republic Of Virtue: American Ideals
Frequent reference to the United States as a young nation tends to obscure the fact that it is also the oldest continuing form of democracy in the world. More than this, it also tends to obscure what the founders understood to be the ancient principles on which they defended the Revolution. John Adams put the matter trenchantly when he noted that the Revolution was complete before a shot was fired. However, staging a revolution against a nation regarded as being one's own in the deepest sense of shared traditions and common ancestry was a grave and entirely unsettling maneuver, Just a few years before 1776, some who would take a leading part in the final dissolution of bonds spoke and wrote passionately for reconciliation. Where then did virtue play apart? How did we as faithful subjects of the 1740s and truehearted loyalists of the 1750s become openly defiant Americans in the 1760s?

The Man From Dry Gulch (Click Title To Read Excerpt)
(Click Here To Purchase Paperback Version From Kindle)
The true story of Chett Colfax going West to seek his destiny, only to be halted by four men set on his destruction. After seven long years, he returns as the notorious gunslinger Gila, to exact his revenge. Belly up to the bar at the Ore House Saloon of Dry Gulch, Texas in 1880 and listen to a western tale like none other: "It's gonna be a slaughter. They won't stand a chance. Blakely's the only one what's fast at all. Gila just gotta git him first and the rest'r good as dead. Rowland's a big mouth and he can use his fists, but he's nothin' with a gun. The bastard's muscle-bound. It'll take him twenty minutes to git his hand that high. Sandy's worse. I don't think he ever drawed a gun in his life, and even if he did he's gonna be shakin' so much it'll be a wonder if he don't blow his damned leg off. An' say Jack come back. That's gonna be just one more dead. You ever seen his hand? If he got the gun out he couldn't pull the trigger. No, it ain't gonna be no gunfight. It's just gonna be three, maybe four men standin' there gittin' it in the gut."

I was loath to go. I had no romantic illusions. I was not eager, or even resigned to self-sacrifice, and my heart gave back no throb to the thought of Germany. In fact, I was very much afraid; and again, afraid of being afraid, anxious lest I should show it. Nevertheless, I concluded it was easiest to meet my fate already beginning to overawe, as an integral figure in a battalion rather than as a lone individual. At last, I was in the mass of marching feet and a part of the war machine. The battle atmosphere began as we kicked in the door to the Eastern Front. We energized each other, thinking of the glory we would receive over such a victory. We wished not for a short victory, short victories are too easy. We wanted real victory for real glory. We started in the lush grass of vast steppes with a thrill of intense happiness as we were a favored group of adventurers, whatever our destiny might be. While I savored the mood, there was carried from the distance of our tramping feet the voice of other warriors. Little did we know of the harsh campaigns we would experience. Little did we know of the people we wished to conquer. Little did we know of our ruthless capabilities. Little did we know of the unforgiving attitude of humanity.

"Soldier! Oh, Soldier!" (Click Title To Read Excerpt)
(Click Here To Purchase E-Book From Kindle)
(Click Here To Purchase Paperback Version From Kindle)
The whistle blew and the men advanced, stepping out into the open where the risen sun made them highly conspicuous. The field separating the woods stretched far on either side and was covered with green-stemmed wheat that reached hip-high. Corporal Garrett glancing over his shoulder, saw the rays of the sun flashing from the clean bayonets, the bayonets the men so often jabbed into the sacks of sand and straw . . . These are the doughboys headed for Belleau Wood, Soissens, Mont Blanc. They had a job to do. They were going to stain their bayonets with blood for the first time and their own blood would be dripping from the German bayonets, too. "Soldier! Oh, Soldier!" gives you the unforgettable feel of how it really was in the horror and glory of the Great War, as told by Corporal Stephen Garret.

THE BIRDS OF THE MARSHES (Click Here to Purchase From Kindle) E-BOOK FORMAT ONLY
If, like most people, you have thought of a marsh as a wasteland, a lonely, uninhabited region of stagnant pools and tall grasses, you will change your mind after reading this book. I show the marshes of our country as fascinating places where an astonishing variety of birds find a refuge, a nesting place or a stop-over on their long migrations in spring and autumn. In a delightfully informal yet informative fashion, you are introduced to the wild geese, the ducks, cranes, egrets, grebes, loons, swans, terns and other species that make the marshes their temporary or permanent homes. I have spent over thirty years observing the habits and characteristics of water birds in different parts of the United States and write of them with perception. Additionally, my drawings will add greatly to your understanding of nature. Special price for young readers.

Although the battalion was completely destroyed upon its outset, Paul gives the details of those few who survived an ordeal openly from hell. A rare narration of honor, loyalty, respect and the fight for survival.
This collection is generated by the journal entries of Paul Wyman, an early environmentalist, conservationist and visionary.
The Background
In the fall of 1975, I was hiking through the Sierra Mountains when a horrific squall forced me to seek shelter. I happened upon an old abandoned cabin to wait out the storm. While investigating my surroundings, I discovered volumes of journals written by Paul Wyman concerning his research of the local environs. After contacting Mr. Wyman's family, we came to an agreement of publishing these journal entries in novel form. I wish each reader to receive great joy and insight in my attempt to reveal to you the spirit of Paul Wyman.
Happy Reading,
